Who we are
Ohio Utilities Protection Service, dba OHIO811, is a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit public safety organization that serves as the established underground utility protection service for Ohio. Founded in 1972, OHIO811 serves as a critical link between excavators and utility owners, processing over 1.6 million excavation notifications annually and directing more than 10 million utility locate requests to over 1,700 Members. As a local, state, and national leader in underground damage prevention, OHIO811 is dedicated to protecting Ohio’s residents, the environment, and the vital utility infrastructure through its free, accessible service, codified in Ohio Revised Code Chapters 3781, 4913, and 153.
OHIO811 Liaisons
As part of the Public Education and Outreach team, Liaisons support the underground damage prevention community by providing free safety presentations, excavator seminars, and community outreach events and partnerships. They also participate in Ohio’s six Damage Prevention Councils and five Utility Coordinating Councils to strengthen communication and prevention efforts across the industry.

Board of Trustees
The OHIO811 Board of Trustees is comprised of 21 industry stakeholders and 21 Alternates. Trustees provide strategic leadership and governance to support OHIO811’s mission of protecting underground utilities and ensuring safe excavation across Ohio. While daily operations are managed by the leadership team and staff, the Board sets broad policy direction, ensures adequate resources for growth and sustainability, and remains accountable to the membership.
