April is recognized as “Safe Digging Month” in Ohio, and Governor Mike DeWine is reminding Ohioans that any excavation projects, no matter how big or small, that OHIO811 must be notified before digging.

All Ohioans including professional and part-time excavators and homeowners must call OHIO811 before they dig to request utility companies to come and mark underground lines so that they are not damaged while excavating.

Anyone planning on digging should notify OHIO811 at least 48 hours, but no more than 10 days. This will provide the time needed for utility owners and operators to mark their underground lines with paint, chalk or flags.

You can notify OHIO811 by dialing 8-1-1, through the OHIO811 mobile app or by clicking here. The process is absolutely free.
